A remarkable woman, Sarah Hellier was interviewed by the Taranaki Herald at age 97. She was able to recount the voyage to New Zealand on the "Oriental" in 1841, her sighting Mt Taranaki (Egmont) for the first time, and the living conditions of the new colony. The song contains her descriptions in that interview.
